Our initial meeting helps us learn why you’ve come for psychotherapy or life coaching. Sometimes, the answer is obvious: your partner left; your parent died; you lost your job or you want to change your work focus. Other times, it’s less clear: you feel anxious and can’t pinpoint why, or you feel stuck in finding the next steps in your life.
We begin by talking about “What’s the problem?” and “Why now?” I want to understand your ideas about the help you seek, whether assistance with a current crisis, or more extensive support with long-standing difficulties. Our conversation is not scripted. Rather it focuses on your personal priorities, interests and goals.
In the first session we take steps toward building a collaborative working relationship while checking out issues of trust, safety, and acceptance. We work together to help you express your thoughts and feelings, build on your knowledge of yourself and clarify the concerns you want to focus on in your sessions. Over time, whether in counseling or coaching our work together helps you develop new patterns and translate them into change in your daily life.
Sessions
Unless other arrangements have been made, individual sessions are 50 minutes and couple and family sessions are 1 hour in length. I conduct one evaluation session for individuals and up to three sessions for couples and families. During these sessions, we can both decide if I am the best person to provide the services you need.
Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend your scheduled session, please make sure you cancel with at least 24 hours notice. Otherwise, you will be charged for the full rate of the session. Your insurance plan will not pay for missed appointments.
